The need for increased disinfection practices in public areas and healthcare environments is more critical than ever.
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the entire globe. It has set a new precedent for taking additional precautions with regards to personal hygiene and protecting public health and safety.
UV technology has been proven to effectively inactivate harmful viruses, including SARS-CoV-2.
The challenge is that UV light cannot be handheld due to its harmful effects on the human body. In addition, stationary UV light is not effective as it does not fully disinfect all surfaces in a particular environment. For example, UV lights that are mounted to a wall are not able to disinfect an entire room.
The solution to this challenge is ORION, an Autonomous UV Disinfection Robot. The autonomous navigation ability of our UV disinfection robots allows them to disinfect all areas of a room and reduce the spread of harmful viruses and bacteria.
We partnered with the Canadian government to develop an autonomous disinfection technology to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Leveraging our existing innovations and library of proprietary hardware & software modules, we completed the development of ORION in under two months.
ORION efficiently performs repetitive disinfection tasks using UV technology, which cannot be accomplished by human labour. ORION is equipped with 8 UV lamps and replaceable battery units which make the robot convenient to maintain and operate.
The robot can work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and fits well into any organization’s schedule. This level of efficiency provides healthcare institutions and other organizations with advanced disinfection technology that is always available. Airports, hotels and schools are among other organizations that can benefit greatly from deploying autonomous UV disinfection robots.

Environment dimensions and disinfection targets are strategically programmed to enable full autonomy. IoT connectivity enables full autonomous functionality as well as teleoperation functionality within the mobile app for easy set up and control.
In terms of safety, ORION’s 360° Vision System allows it to safely navigate complex environments and avoid obstacles. ORION also includes a human detection system that immediately shuts the system down when human presence is detected.
Reporting is a critical part of the quality control process when it comes to patient, employee and customer safety. The mobile app includes a robust reporting function that allows users to select a disinfection time period and view detailed reports. The reports provide a variety of information and highly valuable quality control data. Data includes the person responsible for the job, room number, duration, date, time, disinfection status, and further informative details.
